WHO AM I
I’M BEN LEE
PROFESSIONAL MARCHING BAND ARRANGER
I am a composer/arranger based in Henderson, Kentucky, near Evansville, Indiana.
My love for music came at an early age when I began taking piano lessons from Mrs. Phyllis Egnew. Growing up, I was a “house cat,” as Mom always said, spending way too much time inside playing Nintendo games (if that’s possible, I guess). Through the years, I printed off sheet music for every Nintendo theme I could find, geeked out, and created medleys of my favorite tunes. It was then when I found my passion for music. Later, I joined the Russell County Band in 6th grade, had my life changed, went on to Western Kentucky University where—after I got over my dreams of being Mr. Lawyer Boy, J.D.—I decided to marry my heart exclusively to music.
Since then, I have been so fortunate to teach and write marching band show music for some awesome students. I work with fine directors and staff teams that I consider my dearest friends. I have designed marching band shows for ensembles who achieved such accomplishments as state and circuit champions, runners-up, and finalists, including Bands of America Grand Nationals Class Champion, and Regional and Super Regional Finalists, as well as WGI Winds Finalists and Medalist Ensembles.
My music for wind ensemble is published by C. Alan Publications. Please check out my composition, Flaher—and later this spring, With You—at their website.

My Passionate Philosophy
I believe marching band is an all-encompassing arts experience. To me, it is the ultimate interdisciplinary activity: combining art, dance, theater, and specific content material with the wonders of music. It is such a great method to develop better musicians in order to bolster the concert band, small ensemble, and solo programs. Of course, the whole band experience teaches things far greater than perfecting the technics of music-making. It teaches indispensable life skills, provides an enriching competitive outlet, and leads to lifelong friendships and memories—all while instilling the love of music!
My Personal Process
I strive to provide a personal service for your band program whenever I am asked to arrange marching band show music. I recognize that each ensemble is different: from different places, with different resources, and containing different personnel. I would not write the same themed show the same way for two different ensembles; this is why no recordings, grade level, or duration are listed for pre-existing shows. One show might be written with a saxophone section in mind that hung the moon; another might keep in mind saxophonists who can barely put their instruments together. (Okay…maybe that’s a stretch.) But, when commissioning an original show or leasing a pre-existing show, you are guaranteed a creative, custom, and competitive product that fits your program.
